Oruçken vakit nasıl geçer ?

Evet, Bugün dünya işsizlerinin benimle gurur duyacağı bir gün. Neden mi ? İşte nedenini sağdaki resim anlatıyor sanırım..

Malzemeler :

- İşi gücü olmasına rağmen böyle saçma sapan şeylerle uğraşacak bir insan, mümkünse çatlak bir bilgisayar mühendisi.

- Yıllardır kullanılmayan bozuk bir webcam.

- Alet kutusu.

- Bolca vakit.

Bugün, Ramazanın ilk günü, ilk oruç, ilk açlık, ilk susuzluk ve yemeğe kavuşmanın vereceği o ilk çılgın an ..

Mehmet o gün koşa koşa eve geldi, artık on yaşında koca bir adamdı.

Resimdeki kadının rimelleri akıyordu, Mehmet'in gözyaşıyla..

NOT : Bu hikayeyi Sakarya'nın Pamukova ilçesinde 22 Temmuz 2004 tarihinde, 41 kişinin ölümü ve 89 kişinin yaralanmasıyla sonuçlanan kazanın ardından yazmıştım.

Miss Ilknur

Look who's talking

Hi, I'm Ilknur, my friends call me "sweety". If this introduction is enough, let me tell you some more about myself. At first, i want to reproach my uncle Gokhan for leaving me and going to Finland for 5 months. At the time he left me, i was just a very little lady, who always cries and doesn't have any idea about anything in this world. Look how i look like ! This picture is from 6 months ago. I'm really small, well, to say the truth, that times i wasn't able to speak English properly :)

Ok, in this 6 months, i have lived many things. Sometimes i was waving on the camera to my uncle online. Probably you have heard about Msn Messenger, that was the one i was using for a video chat with him.

If i should be talking about my hobbies, i can say, eating comes first ! Oh my, when im not hungry, i'm the happiest person on the earth. I can eat ( drink, as i don't have proper teeth ) almost anything, including; milk, juice, soup etc.. Well , i can't stop myself :) I'm nearly 10 kgs, can u believe ? I was born 4 kgs and every month, i had one kg. I must be on a diet soon, as you know it's summer time, women have this kind of problems .. Luckily i don't have cellulites, ehe.

As you can see, i support Galatasaray, which is the best team in Turkey. When i began to speak, the first thing i'll say, will be " Champion Galatasaray " :)

I love to smile, play with my toys, everybody in my family loves me sooo much but i'll never be a naughty kid. As you can see, my favourite color is pink. But i have no idea about the singer, Pink.

Sorry, i have to go back to sleeping as my uncle will come here soon and ask me for the computer. So, i have to leave you now. But i'm going to put some of my pictures here if i can do it. Well, my uncle is a computer engineer, he'll teach me one day ;) Gule guleee...

PS: The blue bead you see on the corners of pictures is called "Nazar Boncugu" and we believe that it brings luck for us and keeps us away from the other people's bad thoughts about us. Masaallah is the word, we use to keep the devil away from us.

I'm Back !

By Goki

After 5 months in Finland, being an Erasmus student, now i'm back in my hometown Ankara. Seems like Finland still looks beautiful in the mirror of our old car, VFC-286 ( its code name and traffic plate)

I unpacked my bags which were full of memories, and now trying to get used to my life again. The first difference is naturally the climate, as it's sooo hot for me now. I can't even walk outside now but i like it anyway.. This is what i've been wanting to see for a long time.

It's great to be home with my family, my friends, my streets even my car which can speed, not like VFC-286 eheh ..

I have plans for my summer, i want to work somewhere in the computer business and would like a holiday in the south (Alanya,Marmaris,Antalya etc..) Well, i have to admit, working hard and not being lazy, this is something i learned from Finnish people. If there's one thing i need to respect about them, that is their hard-workingness.

This has been a very sloppy text but forgive me this time, next time i want to write about my nephew Ilknur who is only 6 months old and loves to laugh 24 hours.. Masallah..

Ben bir Haziran akşamı,
Sen ise soğuk bir Şubat sabahı..

Senle ben yanyana gelmeyecek iki zaman birimi..
Alt alta durmayacak iki mısra, karşılaşmayacak iki eski dost,
Ve belki de duyulamayacak bir çığlık gibiyiz..

Oysa sen fa olsan ben de mi,
Belki bir şarkıda olsun yanyana gelirdik..
O zaman bizi dinleyenler anlardı,
Ayrılığın suçu sende mi bende mi ?

Moikka Suomi !

Tomorrow will be a different day for me ... Because i'll be gone ..

Kids in Feeniks will still play, buses in the bus station will still take people to different cities, Helsingitie will still let the cars the way to Helsinki, Bar54 will still be crowded by people, students will still study at HAMK University... But i'll be gone ..

The weather will be still hot for a period of time, then it'll be "cold" again.. Foreigners will freeze and Finnish people will smile at them.. Forssa will be still Forssa but i'll be gone..

But when it comes to the roads to Turku, Tampere or even Pori, they'll miss me .. They'll miss the craziest driver ever drove on them.. But i'll be gone..

Am i leaving Finland or am i going back home ? Time will show me the place where i feel home ..

But one thing that i'm sure is that, i couldn't still find, which city i belong to, and i've to try hard to find it..

So, as a summary, tomorrow i'll be leaving Forssa and going back home to Ankara, Turkey.. I'm sure this is not the last goodbye to a city and a bunch of people, but it still hurts me a little bit..

Thanks a lot to every single person i've met in Finland ! Moi Moi !

Hameenlinna

Trip to the east

Hameenlinna is a city which is ~56 kms far away from Forssa. I can say it's the nearest civilization around :) So sometimes it's good to visit there and see people, shopping centers, some interesting places around. All in all last week we were there, so i want to talk about Hameelinna. There will be plenty of photos here, so i'll put them in small size but when you click on them, you can see the bigger sizes.

First of all, the first difference with my previous trips to there was the " Spring ". As far as i know, my mates are living the summer in Turkey but here it's so called warm spring. There are flowers coming to life all around, and you can find all the tones of green in the streets, gardens, balconies...

Everywhere looks pretty fine and getting ready for the summer which hasn't been able to visit Finland yet. I hope it's not a myth or an old story that, summer will ever be possible in Finland :) Because in Ankara, Turkey, it's like 35 degrees now and they are burning, ehe..

First we visited the place called " Joutsenlampi ", which is a really big garden ( with a small lake included) that has been presented to a princess as a present in 1883. As you can predict, there are many species of flowers, trees and nature there.

There were even some ducks in the small lake of the garden. But here in Finland, there are so many lakes that even people have their own lakes :D So seeing a lake is never something strange, even for me now..

Then we met a small castle in that garden. There is another huge castle in Hameenlinna, but this small one was also used by the Finnish people to protect their land, it's so high that you can even see Turkey from there :P

As you can see, there's also another big lake over there, thousands of millions of trees. Well, i have tried to count them but after 6.747.456 something, i quitted :D

So, you the reader, never ever try to count the number of trees in Finland, it's simply uncountable !

On the top of the castle, we spent like half an hour to see the whole area, the limitless sky and the tones of green was dazzling my eyes. That was the time i realized that i was at least 60 metres high from the ground, so it was better to take care of myself. Because if i'd fall down, there wouldn't be so many things left from me.

One thing i have discovered about myself is that, i love nature.. Of course i don't want to live in a forest or near the lake forever but sometimes it's good to go to countryside and see the nature. I'd like to finish this post with a very meaningful and lovely photo of me and nature.

Suomi - Finland

A Turkish guy in Finland

Here is the article i've written for the lecture " Finnish Culture and Language " which we had here at HAMK - University of Applied Sciences. It's not a very detailed and deep look at Finnish people and Finland, but i hope it gives you an idea about here.

The first thing you can realize in Finland is the silence.. The silence of the people, streets, traffic and even the pets here are silent.. But it doesn't last forever, the silence replaces itself with the happiness and screams with the first drop of alcohol.

When Finnish people are drunk, now it's the time to have fun ! They suddenly, turn into a very friendly and noise making people. It's not something, i'm complaining about, actually it's something i'm used to live like.. Because we, Turkish people, like to make noise, have fun and chat a lot..

After solving this silence problem by talking too much, now i can come to some important similarities between us and them. We also take off our shoes when we enter a house ! But we don't take off our underpants, when we are in sauna :) So, sometimes it's difficult what to take off when you enter some places :) I don't want to take off my underpants, instead of my shoes when i visit some friends, hehe.. Apart from joking, i find Finnish houses, really well-designed and at good quality. They like to use small decorations all around the flat, and it doesn't matter how big your house is.

One thing, i have to mention is the quality of the jobs they do. The excellence of the workmanship can be realized almost everywhere, the windows of the flats, the cleanness of the buses, well-cared streets, well-designed gardens, everywhere shows that there are rules in this country and every citizen obeys them.

I'd like to finish my article by a funny story of me and my mates:

It was the first day in Forssa and we were looking around. It was so cold that, our eyebrows were even frozen. Then we realized the automated traffic lights, which manages the traffic. We don't have that kind of traffic lights in Turkey. So it was amazing to see how it automatically lights green, when the road is empty so that you don't wait when there are no other cars. Then as computer engineers, we wanted to research the algorithm of this system. How does it recognize the cars and decide about the situation of the roaD ? So, as 4 Turkish guys in Finland, we pretented to be a car, 2 people in the back and 2 people in front and made sound like a car :) One of us was the horn and the other was sounding like the engine, ehe. But we couldn't cheat the traffic light, because the road was empty but it didn't light green for us. All in all, ofcourse we didn't believe that we were going to cheat it, because it was a Finnish-made traffic light. We had fun that day, as the other 5 months we spent here..

To sum up, i can say, there are strange things about Finnish people which are beyond the subject of this article but all in all i'm really happy to know them and live in Finland.

PS: The image on the right is from the yahoo group which i and my mates moderate, and i'm aware of the fact that the word Finish should be Finnish. But again i'm too lazy to edit it :D Sorry..

Global Hotkeys for Multimedia Playback

SUMMARY: Control Winamp 5 multimedia playback, no matter what software program you are currently running.

Winamp 5 supports global hotkeys, allowing you to pause multimedia playback, jump to different songs, skip forward and backwards within songs, and more from no matter what application you are running.

1. Right-click on Winamp 5's title bar, choosing "Options" then "Preferences".
2. When the "Winamp Preferences" dialog box appears, click "Global Hotkeys" underneath "General Preferences".
3. In the right pane, Check "Enabled"

You should see a list of global hotkeys that will now be enabled from within any application, listed next to the actions the hotkeys perform. If these keystrokes interfere with other applications, or if you would rather assign other more easy-to-remember keystrokes, do the following:

1. Click next to a hotkey action whose keystroke you want to change.
2. In the "Hotkey" text box, type in a new keystroke combination, using CONTROL, ALT, and/or SHIFT modifiers to help make sure the keystroke will not interfere with other applications.
3. Click the "Set" button to set the new global hotkey.

When you are done, press "Close" to close the dialog box. If you later want to disable hotkey support, perform the above steps needed to get back to the "Global Hotkeys" preferences and uncheck the "Enabled" button.

Converting your files to PDF

Pdf files are very common and easy-to-use files for both distributing and viewing comfortability. Not everyone needs to convert their documents to PDF but if you one day need to convert your documents to PDF. Here are some tips for you.

1-) You can use http://www.pdfonline.com/ . It's free and easy to use. You send your file to their website with the built-in uploader, ( .doc, .ppt, .xls, .jpg etc..) and then they e-mail you the file with the PDF extension. There are no advertisements on it. They also offer a free easyPDF printer driver, which you can use locally in your computer to convert your files, but that way you will find a small advertisement of them, in the corner of your files..

2-) PDF Creator: This small application which is distributed freely converts your files to PDF easily. You can find it at http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ . You should download the PDFCreator-0_9_1_AFPLGhostscript_32bit.msi for Windows. Since it's very easy to use, i won't show any screens..

These two ways are yet enough for your PDFs, for viewing them you can always use Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Configuring your computer's fan speed

As you know, fans are used to lower the temperature of your computer as it rises while it's processing. But sometimes they are annoying and making noise. Those times, if you want to know the temperature of your cpu or even your HDD, i have an advice for you.

Speedfan is free software that that monitors fan speeds and temperatures in computers witha known monitoring chip. Its main feature is that it can control the speed of the fansaccording to the temperatures inside your pc, thus reducing noise and power consumption.SpeedFan can also access S.M.A.R.T. HD data and temperatures (if available).

Being a Turk

By Goki

I have translated an essay written by a famous Turkish writer, Ahmet Altan. It's about being a Turk, and he has really great observations about us. If you really want to have some idea about being a Turk, i recommend you to go on reading.. This is my first translation experiment, so please forgive me for my mistakes ..

Being a Turk

The world's most dangerous entertainment is being a Turk.

Here, even the life itself is amazed about life..

The life is a bungee-jumping of 65 million people. We, millions of people fall down to the ground fastly.. Just at the moment to hit the ground, a power who we never know, pulls the rope which we swing and we jump above..

We rape our sultan, execute our prime minister, put our general staff in the prison, send our young people to execution tripods, then write the best love poems in the world...

We always complain about our stupidness, then we defraud the IMF who is the most clever in the world. They don't even understand, how we get the money from them...

When we're bored of our stupidness, we praise our inteligence and for thousand years, we sleep on the roofs and fall down from there to death..

When it rains, the only human being who can drown in a busy street, in the world's biggest city is a Turk. But the world's first man who attached himself wings and flew was also a Turk.

We declare the government as holy, but then we try to cheat the government. We say, " Villagers are our master, then we beat them..

Turks are the one and only nation who achieved to establish a country which is not recognized by any other country..

We say " Peace in the world, peace in the universe" but all of our neighbours are also our enemies ..

It's very difficult to find a country whose national pride is this valuable but national currency is this invaluable. Those are the Turks, who always deceive each other..

Those are the Turks, who donate one of the two blankets they own, to the victims of a big earthquake, and come together all the nation, when there's a disaster..

Only Turks can be the third team in the World Cup after not even being able to qualify for 48 years.. Those are still Turks, who are beaten by the most unrelated countries in their national sports Wrestling, and injure themselves in wrestling competitions with American wrestlers, who have no idea of wrestling..

We love to say our decision in every subject but we don't believe in any of them.. We don't have any philosopher, but we have a philosophy of life, which noone knows..

The most famous assassin in the world who shot the Pope is a Turk. Also he's the most stupid assassin who shot him in the eyes of thousands of people and caught easily..

The only country in the world, which murderers are national heros but poets are traitors, is Turkey.

We always get suspicious of muslims, but we never employ someone in the government who is
not muslim..

We applause all the revolutions done by the army, and vote for the ones who the revolutioners were against, even in the very next elections.. Those are the Turks, who lost nearly 5 million squarekilometers in only one agreement and still thinks that it is the most efficient agreement ever..

Those are Turks who bomb their own ship for seven hours in a war. Those are also the Turks, who doesn't leave their broken airplane till the last time and dies, not to hurt someone else..

Those are Turks, who are always suspicious of foreigners but still tries to join every foreign community.. Only Turks believe that, all those communities' rules were prepared to seperate Turkey.

Our parliement is not able to make the laws, which will let us join the E.U years ago.. But makes laws in one night, which would be done in ten years in any other country..

Life here is like 60 million people's trapeze activity who have never tried it before.. All the world waits for us to fall down with bewilderment in their eyes but we don't fall down.

We are Turks. We either dance or cry. Being a Turk is the most dangerous entertainment on the earth. And we have fun with fear..

Sunshine in Forssa

Nowadays, the weather is really great. It's unbelievable for me, but it's over 20 degrees averagely..

Today, it was like 24 degrees, and more interesting is that it was " + " plus 24 degrees :D

First we were in our favourite place in Forssa, the place where i call " the Lake " and some friends call it " pond ".. It's still the Lake for me.. We had sunbathing there.. Lying on the grass for hours.. Chatting and doing nothing.. It was a day off for us today :D

Sooo we decided to sit in the balcony and play some video games..

Our last favourite game is Fifa 2006 World Cup, actually Maho is playing it crazily.. All the day, i see his back and the monitor, playing Fifa2006WC.

Then, Ercan joined us in the balcony, which you can see the pictures below :D It's like i have to prove everything i said, by a photo .

After all, it was the time for the sun to go his home. Waving for us ..

Eventually

Hey, nobody will believe but it's hot here now ! Even, i'm wearing shorts and t-shirts outside ! It's almost 13° C, but you feel hotter than actually it's .. It must be because of the climate or the sun rays , they are all different from Turkey.. The weather is great now, and i hope it'll last like this, till i go back to my country..

Here are some pictures:

Now, i can see that people are going out and walking in the streets. Until this time, it was very difficult to see people outside, but now it's like everyone is full of energy. But, it's still boring to live in Forssa, nothing to do, noone to talk.. I've already missed "my" Ankara..

All in all, it's something i've chosen and i like the way i'm living.. I'll try to upload some more pictures from spring scenes in Forssa, but first i have to take those pictures :D
Welcome Spring,,
PS: When it's sunny, i'm funny.

My Fucking Life !
Here comes a new song by me and my mate Alper, i tried to add subtitles to the video for you to be comfortable with the lyrics.. I was a little bit lazy to add all the lyrics, but they are the same as the first part, so you won't have problem in understanding them :D Also, this was my first time adding subtitles to an avi file, i hope you like the song.. It was written, played and sang in 15 minutes, also the video clip is the first time we tried, no practise or nothing :D Everything is done in 20 minutes..
Hope you like it..

Things i missed

By Goki

About my hometown : Ankara

Of coursely, first of all, i missed my family and friends.. Besides them, there are the things which came to my mind now, the order / items can change..

1- My mom's meals ( even vegetables, no more kebab please )

2- My Car ( Driving in Ankara streets with mates )

3- Weather ( Hopefully, it's warm nowadays )

4- My big headphones ( And watching movies with it )

5- My bed ( Oh, so comfortable, i have backpain here.. )

6- The friendliness of Turkish people ( The smile in faces )

When i thought, i found out that there are not so many things i missed about Turkey. Because i took myself and my memories with me, keeping in my mind. I don't like living in past, because it's past, i'm working for future, the future of me and my country..

" I live the absence from home but not the absence from me and myself.."

World Population : 100

If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following.

There would be: 57 Asians , 21 Europeans, 14 from the Western Hemisphere both north and south, 8 Africans , 52 would be female, 48 would be male, 70 would be non-white, 30 would be white, 70 would be non-Christian, 30 would be Christian, 89 would be heterosexual, 11 would be homosexual, 6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's wealth and all 6 would be from the United States. 80 would live in substandard housing, 70 would be unable to read, 50 would suffer from malnutrition, 1 would be near death; 1 would be near birth, 1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education and 1 would own a computer

When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need for both acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent.

The following is also something to ponder... If you woke up this morning with more health than illness... you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation ... you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If you can attend a church or mosque meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or wrath... you are more blessed than three billion people in the world, about 60% of the world population.

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep... you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace... you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If your parents are still alive and still married... you are very rare, even in the United States and Canada.

If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful... you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.

If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all.

We're a fortunate group of people...

AND THERE IS MUCH TO BE DONE!
